an old guy told me the first chinese restaurant in opened in scotland was on the govan road, beneath a tenement. found a wee bit about it on the web

The first Chinese restaurant in Glasgow was the Wah Yen in Govan Road, opened by Jimmy Yih in the late 1940s. As eating out became more fashionable and tastes broadened, Chinese food increased in popularity, providing employment opportunities for immigrants. Many went on to start their own businesses or work in the professions.

only says first in glasgow though.
apparently popular with chinese sailors, and school kids who didnt like the school dinners

The 1948 Kelly's Directory shows Wah Yen's restaurant at 455 Govan Road, which was just past Elphinstone Street, on the left hand side heading towards Govan Cross.

I was born in a house at 445 Govan road, so will need to ask my mother
about the chinese restuarant. I must admit i dont remember seeing any
chinese restuarants around there in the seventies before they blitzed
the tenements.
