How accurate is the info, any attempts to gloss over the bad stuff ? And lets see those photos and covers

That looks like a cracking book Alex, I'm definitely getting one. I was walking in the Green yesterday, it was just so lovely in the sunshine. Its one of those places that Glaswegians sometimes take for granted.

Here are a few to get things rolling:


Ward Lock, 1920s

I have a copy of this only with a map of the west of Scotland from Inveraray to Ayr on the cover. Curiously there's a note inside apologising for the lack of maps 'owing to War-time difficulties'

Some of my guides, I only collect the official guides published by GCT, but i've also picked up a couple published post-war by the Corporation Information Bureau.
The photo quality in these isn't great, and they tend to be small, but some quite interesting views I think.


1906. A rather whimsical cover, especially the treatment given to the city coat of arms






1911.






The new style guides didn't really change that much, just different covers for each year, and perhaps a few minor updates inside.

1934. 1935.
1938. 1939.









In the 1920's GCT also published guides for those looking to explore further, hillwalkers would take trams to the furthest outreaches of the city. This is how Tom Weir got started,
No photos in these books, they consist of text, sketches, and some rather nice watercolours.

Post-war, guides were published by the Municipal Information Bureau, not GCT But at least they still had nice covers.

Still in the 1960's, a guide to the City Chambers.





And for Kelvingrove. As it was intended to be carried on a visit, it doesn't have any photos, but here's the old floor plan.





Now into the early 1970's. Awful quality photos, but interesting views.

These old guides can be bought for a quid or two from old bookshops, the Barras, & Ebay, so well worth keeping a look out for a bit of history
