Needing some Info on some Hidden Hamilton - Almada Street

Postby tip2tail » Mon May 03, 2004 9:49 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to see if any folks on here have any photos of Hamilton Almada Street in particular before County Buildings (South Lanarkshire Council HQ) was built and during the construction process. Its actually my dad is looking for them to help jog some memories.

Any older pictures of the Hamilton area are welcome.

Cheers,
Mark Young

Just found this thread when I was looking to gather some Hamilton threads together. Below are some photos taken by my dad as a teenager when the county buildings first opened. I found these when I was going through old stuff and scanning in the negatives.

- all copyright my dad of course...

The County Buildings were built on the site of the old Hamilton Barracks, weren't they?

If so, I might have a photo of it. I'll go look.

Does anyone know how high they are because I reckon it must be one of the tallest buildings in Scotland.

Now

I checked emporis high building page but is said Hamilton had none :?: , which is a bit weird.

Its 20 floors tall

Is it on a hill because to me it looks quite tall as well, 20 floors isnt exactly huge 8O. It was just either refurbished judging by these photos or is getting demolished.

Refurbished. The concrete was of the "kingston Bridge" type and hed needed some work. They also installed new heating/air con with double glazing and re-paved and fixed the concrete on all the paths and the bridge at the entrances, along with a new VIP car park (the "pleb" one being a good 5 mins walk away - incedentally the Fire muster point too!).

All done now. Looking good as new.

Oh yeah! It is on a hill!

ach I don't know I used to hate it, but after the refurb I actually like it. Clean simple lines, I think it looks quite tidy now.
