wedding venue!

Postby glasgowbride » Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:54 pm

Hi folks

I am knew to this site but I'm a glasgow girl and want to get married
in the city centre or round about.
I am hoping someone knows of a hall/barn that could be hired.
So far, the hotels I've seen aren't really what I imagined my wedding to be like.

I don't want to go out of the city to a country hotel.

I have looked at : partick burgh hall (i quite like it)
someone mentioned Henry wood hall but I've not investigated that yet.

Anyway, I was hoping that someone out there would know of somewhere.

All suggestions welcome!

Thank you

Love from G x

Hi G

I had my civil partnership ceremony and reception in West Brewery on Glasgow Green last year. I also looked into the Winter Gardens which is another possibility.....it was too large for our ceremony but would make a fab venue I think. I downloaded a list of all the venues from somewhere, possibly the Glasgow City Council website.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!
I had thought about West but someone said that they don't give you exclusive access.
Was this a problem with you?
I don't know if I want to be at the bar in my frock with folk I don't know.
(Try saying that after a gin and tonic!)

Was at a wedding in St Andrews in the Square recently. Has the feel of a church wedding without being in a church, If you know what I mean.

Catering was good also, as well as being able to drink outside in the City centre.

All in, I thought it was an excellent venue.

Hi, thanks for replying and good choice!
Had also thought on St Andrews in the square as I've been to a wedding there too.
It was a close friend so think I would want somewhere different.
This is one of the problems of being the last one standing!

They gave us exclusive use of the hop room (the smaller room) for our ceremony and meal, and they set up the larger area for our reception at night. There were a couple of minor issues with that (two girls joined the reception without realising that's what it was, and a cheeky git came over and pinched a plate of cakes), but apart from that I forgot there were folk there that I didn't know, and the staff did work hard to look after us. There is also the option to hire the whole place if you want.

By all accounts (i.e. the folk I know who have been to weddings/ got married there) the Park Circus registry office is magnificent.

We got married in Eastwood House and also had our reception there. It was a fabulous location.

My wife and I got married at Park Circus registry office in '99 (and hired a coach to take everyone to our reception venue); magnificent is maybe pushing it slightly but I would certainly recommend it as a wedding venue.

Another vote for Park Circus, it's gorgeous.

Alternatively, Trades Hall?

Photos from the latter.

A friend was married at Pollok House , a lovely venue.
Another friend was married at Park Circus. A great venue with a fascinating history. The reception was in Langside Halls which was interesting. The Halls have character , but if you want modern you will be disapointed.

My mate got married and had his reception in Oran Mor a couple of years ago.

I'd definitely recommend there, though I have no idea how much it would cost to hire (mucho plenty I'm guessing, though it didn't cost my mate anything as his father-in-law owns the place).
