The top end, near Peckhams. Clarence Drive is closed from Lauderdale Gardens to Hyndland Rd

It's the block next to Peckhams and Rye (the offie). Couldn't get near it last night - the whole street was cordoned off.

Probably a wee bit of settlement with all the rain. There are a lot of mines around there but they have pretty much been all grouted up, so probably settlement.

It would only take the Sandstone to move quickly an inch or so and that would be enough.

A lot of the old buildings in Glasgow continue to settle slowly due to their construction, but it usually is if there is quick settlement after heavy rain that the real problems can occur.

nice pics - not as dramatic as the story sounded, but not good if you live there...

my flat is top floor of a tenement on top of a ridiculously steep hill... better yet the building next door fell down at some point... and i get new cracks appearing in the walls every month or so. great pad though!!

I use to rent a basement in that block, there was a crack up the length of the building it was meant to be 2 inches wide at the top.That was 10 years ago so there must be some sort of movement.

Is that the back of somebody's Boiler on the left and someone else's larder doors on the right.

Is this damage caused by subsidence or is it sandstone decay?. In anycase it will be expensive to repair.

I had a wonder there earlier and it looks like the surface stone has just become detached from the rubble fill with no signs of gaping cracks. It's just the way they built tenements not tying the exterior stonework to the interior. It wouldn't surprise me if the 6 weeks on continuous rain had something to do with it as the wall faces south into the wind and rain.

Looks like water ingress to me, most probably a long-standing problem exacerbated by the last couple of weeks WET weather. Looks horrific, but may not actually be that bad!

Bit of a frost on Saturday night too. First for a while too, so perhaps that was the final straw...?
