Buying CBs

Postby pwh60_2 » Sat Jul 01, 2006 11:15 am

Hi,
weekends take a wander down to Moncur St at the Barras, or Parkhead Market. New CBs are not so dear. May even be able to buy 2nd hand at Parkhead?
Now is a good time to get a CB, the "skip" is in, plenty of activity.

There is a possibility that CB will go licence free towards the end of the year. Might bring some life back into CB.
Good luck

466MHz...

... is licence-free. You know those little cheapy-crappy walkie-talkies that Maplins do for 20 quid?

You're not allowed to modify them to increase the TX power, or add a proper aerial. You're also not allowed to do fun stuff like packet radio over them. Hm. Better not do that, then ;-)

"Come in on the side."

"Who's on channel?"

"Who wants to know?"

"Whitesnake from Walton's Mountain."

"You've got Nimrod from Pollok, the Artful Dodger from Borrheid and Tong Tester from the Five Fingers."

"How am I hitting you mate?"

"Aye a good 8 and a hauf pal."

"Magic, I've just swar'd in a K40, 10 10."

I seem to remember an Itallian Stallion from Ibrox. Was that
your "20" back then? I can recall a few handles from that area,
Doberman, Snowflake, Silver Rod. No doubt more will spring
to mind in the near future. My "20" was Drumoyne, (still is),
and there must have been about 30-40 people from there on
air during the cbing peak. This usually caused total chaos with
everyone bleeding over one another :x Then there was the
neighbours kicking up feck because their tv sets were going
crazy every I keyed the mike. ::): All the Drumoyne
breakers used to meet up at the snack bar at the Texaco
garage on Shieldhall Road at all sorts of hours of the night. I
had a good rummage earlier on and found one of my old
eyeball cards . I'll take a photo of it tomorrow and
post it.

Right that's it...

... I'm firing up my CB just as soon as I find a suitable power supply. I'll be on the breaking channel, high up in sunny Scotstounhill, from about teatime this evening.

My power supply used to be a 12v battery wired up
to a charger which was on constantly. I eventually
burnt a hole through the bedside cabinet and carpet
below with the acid bubbling over. ::):
Was gonna fire the rig up tonight but I've snapped
the mag-mount. Need to do a bit of soldering
later.

@ big/davie, we'll have to catch up on irc or messenger
sometime and reminisce about the old days. 8O
Knew quite a few folk from Tormore.

Took a photo of my old eyeball card

Blimey, CB's 'crazy noises and distant voices' ::):

I'd love to get back on one if given the chance. There was a woman round my way when I was wee called 'Mental Lentil' she was on all the time and had some set-up. Anyone remember her? Cardonald?

btw, what does 'an eyeball' mean again...sounds so familiar.

'Side'

'Side'

'Side come in' ::): love it.

can't hear you, your squelched out :) its too make arrangements to meet with someone, sometimes good ::): sometimes bad 8O usually if it was girls you going to meet, sometimes they sent there pals and reported back the info, gave it up years ago because it was goin downhill rather fast, too many fools and abusive people on it.

cruisin about in the car with the magmount was great fun, could imagine doing it now, turning a corner and about 30 neds standing ready to steal your car :? ::):
