It was the Govan Town Hall originally [or Burgh Chambers as it was called] and became a police station around the turn of the 20th century. Apparently the local fire brigade shared the premises for a while. The Govan polis are now based at the huge Strathclyde police headquarters in Helen St.

.. and the big red boarded up building in the 'round the back' picture was the old subway Car Sheds on Broomloan Road. The tall celestory roof had the crane where the cars were lifted out from the tracks.
Got a few old piccies of the inside - will post them when I've copied them over from slides.

@ engineer
Did you take any photos of the John Cossar building in Govan Road?
This is where the Govan Post/Press was printed. Some nice
architecture.
Also if you get the chance have a look at the building on Govan Road
between the the Harmony Bar and The Old Govan Arms, just above
the (burnt out) Carpet Sale shop. Some nice architecture there too.

Another one! That ornamental ironwork fountain in the picture. There is an almost identical one in Dalmuir Park, though with less "spindly" columns.

Image

Currently painted a rather lurid gold, as you can see. I know there is another structure cast in the same pattern elsewhere in the city, but I can't remember for the life of me where now. That makes three of these gorgous awnings. Until recently the Dalmiur Park one featured a large, Minervian Owl as a centerpiece under the cupola, but it got nicked, last summer I think.
