I think i'm right in saying the only stuff below ground was an island platform, and the stairs down to it ? They didn't have any buildings below street level.
There might not have been much to take away. I wonder if the track still follows the path round the old platform ?

London Road Track

Postby Alex Glass » Sat Jun 03, 2006 2:35 pm

Did the Glasgow Cross station link to the London Road track?

Alistair Watson the Chair of SPT was in the tunnel under London Road a few months back. I think an article appeared in the Evening Times. He was looking at the possibility of reopening the line and open a station at Springfield Road. I was up ther with him soon after and he showed me where the track emerged from London Road. heding in the direction of Newton I think.

Yes, the line under Glasgow Cross goes east to Bridgeton Station (formally
Bridgeton Cross). This station sits on what was a junction - the existing line
goes to Dalmarnock and the other line went towards Springfield Road. The
platform of the now closed part of the station was an island platform. I'm sure
there's a thread on here about it somewhere.

There was some talk of reopening the line for the new National Sports Arena. Now SPT have decided to put in a platform at Parkhead and improve the Dalmarnock Station.

Dalmarnock will be the station for the arena.

Alistair told me there was a good possibility of reopening the line. when he was down the tunnel he was surprised at how much of the tunnel was intact.

Alex, this was discussed at length in another forum http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2575&start=50&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=parkhead+stadium+station

Stand by what I said in that forum too, this is old ground, the line should have been reopened as part of the original Whifflet reopening proposal with the service going Bridgeton Cross - Parkhead - Tollcross - Carmyle - Mount Vernon - Coatbridge. Sadly it cannot happen now, as the M74 extension was built over the formation at Carmyle.

The problem is eastwards of there. It originally ran through Tollcross and joined
to the current line to Whifflet at Carmyle, where the M74 has now obliterated
the site of the former junction. There has also been substantial building on the
formation around the Tollcross area, as I understand it.

If they re-opened the line, how far does it go? As far as Springfield Road? That
just doesn't seem worth it, especially as they're talking about reopening (anyone
spot a pattern here?) Parkhead North Station on the Airdrie line.
