Garthamlock Gadgie strikes back

Postby Dexter St. Clair » Wed Apr 12, 2006 11:49 am

I quite liked it myself. I must show it to those who describe me as being on a different end of the political spectum.

Back to the fray. There is a difference between being on incapacity benefit and being disabled.

Macca describes his former neighbours as "all the tax-dodging system-exploiting gadgies". Just how do they tax Dodge and how do they expolit the system.

In Glasgow the long term unemployed are supported by incapacity benefit. Is this what you mean?

And do you support the Government and Council's moves in this area to shift them back into tax paying employment or would you rather swap insults?

Thats fine but when did they actually put new stuff in the museums. I understand you cant plant a new tram every week in the MoT or hang new paintings every day but, be honest, how long have the same exhibits been there?

I don't really see what you are arguing for here. Do you want a properly funded (from your precious taxes) Museum Service or do you want them to run a crap service from their rather limited resources.

I think they do a pretty good job in the cash-starved world they have to operate in. There are always new temporary exhibitions popping up all over the service. Alas anything more major will require a substantial raise in funding.

But it's only the unemployed, foreigners and bastard children who have the time to visit them anyway... Might as well shut the whole thing down eh?

The Council, as part of the project to renovate Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, build the Glasgow Museum's Resource Centre in Nitshill. This store is the first of its kind and can be visited and tours are conducted every day for visitors. The benefit that the GMRC brings will be seen when Kelvingrove opens as this will enable revolving display of object. were before displays were static due to the inacceability of those items held in storage. Phase II of GMRCwill take items currently stored at the Transport Museum. I hope that this will have a positive impact on future visits to Glasgow's Museums.

I'm lost in this twist in the tale. What does one expect to find displayed in a musuem? Isn't its reason for being to display items preserved from the past?

I've visited a number of musuems down south, and at considerable cost too (entrance fee and travel). They don't have the reserves that Glasgow's musuems have to call on (and have been hidden to us in the past due to lack of facilities) and change little from year to year. I've grown up in Glasgow, and enjoy the freedom to visit most musuem free (or get some tax value to be pedantic) and static displays are not an issue, though I do baulk a little at special displays that are charged for inside the buildings (unless they're travelling or touring specials). With their entrance fee, and static displays, more southerly musuems don't represent good value, and I'm sorry for the locals. Exceptions are the 'living' musuems, such as Beamish.

The musuem of transport may be a special case, as its content represents items that are becoming worthy of inclusion in out lifetimes, and although some may not notice new exhibits appearing, there are regular additions. In fact, some of the areas are becoming overcrowded as vehicles are added, and the move will be timely and bring much needed space.

Hi Apollo

I would recommend a visit to Glasgow Museum's Resource Centre in Nitshill. Its a short walk from the trainstation in Nitshill on the Barrhead line.

It is possible to tour the store and see some of the items previously hidden away. It is best to phone to ensure that the tour is not fully booked. When the next phase is built it will house some of the items from the Transport Museum and this new store will also be included in the tours.

If you know of any item that you would like to take time to study there is a facility to request a viewing in one of the smaller rooms that are available.

I am sure you would enjoy a visit to GMRC Nitshill.

There you go again. Introducing disability into something I said when I never mentioned disabled folk. I said that the Council Tax wouldnt have to go up as much every year if they could figure out a way of making the soap-dodging, employment-dodging scum pay their dues. Incapacity benefit is a fucking sham, my late grandfather couldnt get a disability car despite losing one, then two legs to hospital idiocy but the guy next door and his girlfriend who dont work get two cars. Tell me also how its fair for cripples to get cars when able bodied folk dont get free cars and heres a challenge, try doing it without using the words "positive" and "discrimination."

The ones I'm talking about, again if you had read my posts, are the ones who deliberately dont work and who know and exploit every loophole in the system to ensure they "get whut ah'm due" and for as long as they can. Gas that fucking element of the city, make sure the people who really need the safety net at least have it under them then Labour and its bastard socialist toady scum can come here and fanfare how wonderful they are. Yes, wonderful. Wonderful job fucking the City.

And as for the link you posted, are you telling me that after three terms they're only getting round to sorting out the benefits and thats a good thing? What have they been doing since 1997 apart from eroding my civil liberties and taking more from me to give to undeserving, bone-idle, lazy vagabond nobodies whose contribution to society is so minimal it should warrant the issuing of licences for having children, especially if you're single and want to call you're wee girl Britney or Chantelle.

Naw its no that bad- lots of areas if you ask ahead of time to see.

It only lasts about an hour but it’s good to see some of the stuff that’s not been seen for a while/ years/ ever.

The only thing they don’t have is a cafe

Oh Macca lighten up!

I think its great that the GRMC exists and the stuff isnt hidden away somewhere where no one can see the stuff - out of context or not, do you need a full display in order to "get" something. I also think its a good thing its in an area like Nitshill which could do with something to encourage some positive thinking.

I also am a bit dubious about the blokes motives giving the money, cynical me but strings are usually attached in this world. If he wanted to thank the place that much why not give it anonymously or without all the free publicity to his company?!

Next point, council tax would still go up whether cheating scumbags (yup we know the ones you mean and we hate them but that underclass will always be there unless we outbreed them) claim disability or not. I have my own quibbles with this benefit and it cheeses me off when I see people abusing systems but I dont have to fill up a thread about my personal thoughts on what I would do if I ran the country.

I love the way you think I'm getting emotional about this. I just made a point about the CT and Dexter, in his usual fashion came leaping to the defence of disabled folk when I wasnt getting ripped into them. Methinks the ladyboy protest too much. He sounds like one of those PC do-gooders who rush around making sure everyones OK and that no one gets offended. I think he she go and get some pals, and a girlfriend.

That and the thread was starting to turn into a back patting ceremony for some Labour guy and his wee fanclub. I just thought that I'd remind them of what they have achieved so far (nothing). Cue Dexter again.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Better to make sure nobody gets offended than really wind them up (which I admit to from time to time  ).

Dexter is always like this though, who knows what his agenda is but he always jumps down your throat no matter what you say. I havent even been following this thread, because I hate these arguments...

Incapability is not the same as disability

Postby Dexter St. Clair » Wed Apr 12, 2006 8:08 pm

Well Macca,

The Labour Government has put more people into employment. The ones who wanted to work but found it difficult. They're now dealing with the ones who have been out of work that long they have serious problems in getting a job. Some of them require support whilst others like your neighbours might need more than encouragement. Glasgow has put itself forward as a pilot area.

As it's mere mortals and civil servants that are applying the scheme and maybe even punters like you there will of course be problems. There always is. e.g Motability, incapacity benefit etc.

But to get back to my original question do you support the above or are you just a greeting face schemie that's made it good. You know like the guy that's donating the money to the museums.
