Not wanting to overly politicize this thread (but hey politcs caused it in the first place), I have a couple of points;

1. Rather than a tax levied on the value of someones home (which in no way reflects their ability to pay or their income), why not levy tax based on a system of earnings and responisibilites. Oh, and STOP GIVING FUCKING FAMILIES A FUCKING BASTARDING TAXBREAK TO HAVE MORE FUCKING SPROGS SO MORE OF MY TAXES CAN PAY FOR THEIR BASTARD EDUCATION.

2. Maybe if they could find a way of making all the tax-dodging system-exploiting gadgies who think long term unemployment is a career, to actually pay their CT it wouldnt have to go up every year. If you think this is overly harsh, I grew up in the North of Glasgow, surrounded by these fucking oxygen-thieves.

3. Be honest, the museums as they exist at the moment are pish. When was the last time anyone went into the MoT and thought "Wow, new displays!" Its been the same old shite for years and the same muppets who have sat on the same Council have voted the funding into the same channels.

Cheers.

Are we allowed them for all parties?

I say - in an independent Scotland, museums would be open all the time and everything would be fab.

On the contary, Glasgow has the finest provincial museums service in the Country. The MoT has the highest attendance figure for any transport museum in the country and it might have escaped your attention but there is a substantial muti-million pound investment being made in the new Transport Museum at Glasgow Harbour which, and I am presuming here, they won't just fill with the "same old shite".

Despite perpetual underfunding (which has mostly been the fault of National Government) Glasgow has managed to revitalise its museums service, opening GoMA and St Mungos in the past 15 years, is finishing off a major upgrade to Kelvingrove which will make it a world-class visitor attraction again and then the aforementioned new MoT.

What I don't get throughout this discussion is however - What is the bid deal about Mondays? The closure wasn't going to affect Kelvingrove or GoMA which are the two main tourist attractions and if tourists are the big issue here surely we should be encouraging them to stay in the city for a few days anyway. There is a Europe-wide tradition of museums being closed at least one day a week (usually at the start of the week) and everybody seems to have forgotten that Glasgow Museums were closed on Mondays for a substantial part of the 1990s without any complaint. I don't think it really was going to be that much of an issue for anybody...

So whilst its nice that they now will be open seven days and if that's what the guy wants to spend his money on then it's his decision, but I'm sure there were better things that Glasgow Museums could have done with the £250k for and I know there are many better causes out there too.

Red_Kola;

Thats fine but when did they actually put new stuff in the museums. I understand you cant plant a new tram every week in the MoT or hang new paintings every day but, be honest, how long have the same exhibits been there?

I don't really see what you are arguing for here. Do you want a properly funded (from your precious taxes) Museum Service or do you want them to run a crap service from their rather limited resources.

I think they do a pretty good job in the cash-starved world they have to operate in. There are always new temporary exhibitions popping up all over the service. Alas anything more major will require a substantial raise in funding.

But it's only the unemployed, foreigners and bastard children who have the time to visit them anyway... Might as well shut the whole thing down eh?

I was arguing about the Council Tax and never once mentioned foreigners. It may sound slightly sociopathic but I dont care about your children, and want even less to pay for their education.

Similarly when I see some cow at the end of my street have another kid because the family allowance on one is about to run out, and the guy next door with two mobility cars and the guy who borrows surgical collars for his disability benefit interview I dont have a problem suggesting they should pay their own way.

And dont bang on about me being lucky. I had the same education as the gadgies around me and my family had enough problems as I was growing up that they could maybe be described as a bad example. I got where I am through hard work and intelligence so when I look back I dont see why the hard working part of Glasgows populace should support the hard-core of scum who wont work and who will work harder at not getting a job than they will if they actually land one.

Give or take some different wording this is Labour party policy and forms the backbone of a new initiative to move some people off "Incapacity benefits".

It's explained in detail here and Glasgow is involved.

It's explained here for Edinburgh residents and punters like Macca.

Let's hope Macca is not run over by a Motability driver and is subject to the new regime.

Where did I mention disabled folk? You've a right chip on your shoulder about that havent you? Hence why all the posts in the Disabled People Vs. GCC thread.

Vaguely insulting and condescending while not reading what I wrote, twice over two separate threads. You really are a clueless fucking tit arent you. Apart from being a socialist, what is your disability?
