Archive pics from some rather old copies of Glasgow University Guardian I found lying around the office.

Wow, thanks for those pictures. I go to Glasgow, but only started in September 2004. I remember the Hub being open when I was there on my open days, but never went in it. I'm really surprised at how nice it looked inside around the end, because today it is an absolute dump, and looks as if it has been empty a lot longer than it has.

Oh, and also October 2005? It's now nearly 2006 and they've done absolutely nothing to it. The wee Hillhead High neds are often seen hanging about the fire escapes at lunchtimes, I imagine contributing to it's current state of smashed windows.

I would probably have been in there at the time of the October 85 picture. It was handy for library avoidance...

No mention of the red plastic teapots that they used to use there that ended up in just about every student flat in the west end

I'll have to ask my brother about the teapots, he went to Glasgow in 1988. It's such a dump now, I don't know when they are planning on doing it up. As for library avoidance, don't you mean lecture avoidance? ;)

I stared Glasgow Uni in 1988, and in my opinion the Hub has always been a place devoid of any soul. It really died a death when both the QM & GUU got their act together and started serving decent food ( in clean refurbished cafes ).

The Hub was for library avidance. Lecture avoidance was done in the QM bar, where I spent a far more considerable time than i ever did in the hub.

The sign on the wall was a classic "Slick chicks dig Dicks" -- it was a wallpaper shop incidentally. ::):
