I know someone who stayed in Baird Hall I think. Surprised they allowed Changing Rooms into it to change it about!

Looks like it used to be mustard coloured with red stripes, which would have been worse.

Looks like a big adidas advert now.

The colouring scheme was mustard with red and black fins when new, so what you're looking at now is actually the closest it's been to original for about 4 decades! The red and black of the fins I think are tiles, not paint - I watched the workies one day undertaking the tedious task of scraping all the paint off them!

It's become something of a given now that when undertaking any sort of conversion of a listed building like this, the developers must at least restore the facade to its original appearance, even if they mangle the interior somewhat. Nodrog and I have been communicating with the council over the conversion of the Odeon in Renfield St, encouraging just such a move there too - it would be nice to see it restored fully on the outside at least, complete with the fairly extensive neon lighting scheme that outlined all the visible facades.

Have the fins actually been painted, or have they had paint stripped off them? Should have read the listed building report Nodrog posted...

The fins were all finished earlier this week and were looking very VERY bright , shiny and crisp.

I think it looks really good. I pass it most days when I get the bus from uni to work, so this week I suddenly noticed the change. Wonder how long it'll stay nice and bright and white/cream/clean for!

My friend has just bought one of the flats. If she has anything to do with it will stay nice and bright and clean for a long time!! :)

I am glad they have tried to restore the facade to as close to the original as possible. The red is quite bright but I think it works.

Apparently the G1 group are opening a pub/bar in it once it's finished.

Would love one myself, so much easier for work and the gym.

Yip, walked past it today and there's a large banner advertising for bar staff etc. Might be a club in fact.

I believe some of the flats are now up for sale. Has anyone had a look inside the building yet?
