Help!

[My Kitten]

Charged my batteries as normal, put them into the camera and started as usual then the wee blinking icon comes out then the camera shuts itself down.

Bought duracell's last night, camera powers up, lasts 10 mins this time then shuts down saying theres no juice in the batteries.

Anyone help?

Its a Fujifilm Finepix E510. It seemed perfectly happy until this illness.

My Kitten, have you tried NiMH recharg batteries. If a new
set of NiMH don't do the job, I'd be back at the shop.

Thermal issues could be a problem, some cameras hate
the cold. A friend has a Fuji Finepix and it hates cold
weather.



That's the current batteries for my Olympus, available
from Maplins in St. Enoch Sq. or Great Western Rd.
£12 for a pack of 4. I've found that duracells only last
about 5 mins in mine.

Don't trust Alkaline batteries from corner shops, avoid
like the plague.

My Fuji Finepix died the other week... similar scenario, new batteries (Nimh of course ) but it just blinked... then died

I would pop in and see if they will give you a quote.
Perhaps others have similar problems. Just having
a trawl around forums at present, see if there is any
issues with the model.

P.S. Dodge the lightning, think we are going to get
hailstones.

Is she using a 16mb media? It could be the card being filled.

She is using NiMH batteries, not Alkaline or NiCads?

If no to the first and yes to the 2nd - Take It Back and tell Fuji about
the problem.

Memory card, perhaps.

My Kitten, my husband has a Fuji Finepix S3000. He says there is a power saver in the setup menu. Go to "taking picture" mode, put up menu, then to "option" and there should be a choice for "setup" or "lcd". Choose "setup" and power saving should be in there.

Non-rechargeable cells can't cope with the demands of a digital camera. As noted, 5 to 10 minutes use if you're lucky. I've had as few as 3 pictures taken before a set died.

Rechargeables have a limited life, 100 to 500 cycles dependent on application and charging method used.

Many cheap chargers charge them as a set, so each receives the same regardless of its need. Those that were fully discharged don't get enough, partially discharged cells end up overcharged. Both reduce their life.

Not widley publicised, although NiMh don't have a memory like NiCad, they steadily lose capacity as they age, and LiIon do this from the day they're manufactured. (That's why I always avoid new cameras with custom LiIon packs at £70 a throw).

Before condemning the camera, try a new set of rechargeables, and subject them to at least 3 full charge/discharge cycles from new, or they won't be holding full charge.

Better still, invest in a computer controlled charger. £30 to £50 but lets you see what condition the cells are in, and cycles each one independently.

There is a service centre for cameras in Hope St I think it’s next door to The Toby Jug/ Starbucks, Central Chambers
They also fix digital cameras.

Take some smelling salts you’ll need it when they give you a quote to fix your camera

Must be a Fuji thing, my old FinePix S304 started getting thirstier and thirstier for batteries, sometimes refusing to work altogether if I didn't buy high quality AAs.

Eventually, it just started dying without warning, with the lens still out, until one fine day in Blackpool it decided never to switch back on.

Not surprised, really, I gave it a hard if short 2 year life, crawling around building sites and living in my jacket pocket in sweaty clubs...! But having heard all these stories, maybe it wasn't my fault after all!
