Cyro, there's a name you don't forget after coming across some old pics... some change indeed.

For anyone interest in the Jack House book, Glasgow Past & Present, I noticed that Bookworld have a 2005 edition on their shelves.

Sadly, the screen archive site doesn't have any online footage.

I know this was posted quite a while back but I've dug up some info on the Anniesland Road works.

Castlebank Dyeworks were located at 188-200 Anniesland Rd

I think the early pic was taken inside the gates. They look old enough to be the original ones.

And the detail on the pillar is the clincher

Also round the corner is Castlebank Villas

What a brilliant thread. Really enjoyable.

Wonder what some of our newer buildings will look like in a 100 years? All those luxury flats, will they stay luxury for long?

Anyone got any east end photos to post?

I have a feeling that this building in Ashton Lane was the original premises of the Barr and Stroud optical works and that the 1903 picture is in fact a group photograph of the employees. Can anybody verify this? Barr and Stroud were a very famous Glasgow company who eventually moved to the Anniesland area [Crow Road, I think]. A number of years ago they moved again, to a new building opposite the Southern General Hospital. But I don't think they are called Barr and Stroud any more.

The building was indeed opccupied by Barr & Stroud from 1894, although they moved to their Caxton Street/Crow Road premises in 1903, so the photo may be Barr & Stroud employees or it could be employees of the new business that moved in after Barr & Stroud, but i suspect it's the former.
