Hmmm - I was 14 when this all happened, but I was going through a rebellious stage when it was uncool to make an effort for anything.

I only visited the Garden Festival twice!

I went once with my school and once on a rainy day with my mum and gran. I do remember they changed the decor of Finnieston Station to include pictures of the festival on the walls though. And jeez - I remember the map!

Looking at the pictures doesn't really spur any particular memories with me but I do remember going on the Coca-Cola rollercoaster and going on the tram with my gran. Was there a fountain? I vagely remember the boats in the Clyde.

Good to see it all back - I wish I could remember more!

Here's a ticket from the Garden Festival dated 4th July 1988, I took my wee brother to it that day. (he was also 14 IIRC deebers. Pure coincedence of course

)

Made him do the Coca-Cola Rollercoaster for his sins :twisted:

never made it up the Clydedale Bank Tower as it was mobbed.

Unlike the Science tower :!:

this actualy worked

Kept the ticket just in case they did refunds ::):

all i can remember was the crystal pavillion with the boats in the water around it and the railway line going over the clyde

Don't know if the list is definitve, but found this list posted by someone reflecting on the first Garden Festival.

Held at 2 yearly intervals in old industrial areas:
1984 Liverpool
1986 Stoke
1988 Glasgow
1990 Gateshead
1992 South Wales

I still have a programme from the garden festival, with Prince Charles/Diana on the front. I'll rake it out at one point and maybe stick some scans on!!

My mum still has a copy of that. There's not a lot of photos in it if I remember properly.

She also has the promotional video. It might be worth a watch, given that it I think it has some sort of time-lapse shot showing the site developing into the Festival site.

Must borrow that off her....

Is that the same video they used to show in the cinema, in the old Glasgow street in the transport museum maybe?
