Hello All
Came across this picture - I'm sure most of you have seen it before.
Does anyone know the name of the street/Place that's running at the top of the hill and to the left of the corner entrance to the hotel?
Thanks
Yes HH,I know

Used to walk along that street to collect parcels sent by rail from Stranraer/ Dumfries in the parcels office which was in a sort of dingy office at the far end of the St Enoch Hotel. Our younger contributors may not know that there was a thriving parcels railway business. You put the parcel in the guards van in Dumfries at 9am and hey presto it was at St Enoch by 2pm!
I used to go to a pacels place at Salkeld Street to send parcels to Ayr etc. That whole "industry" seems to have vanished.

I used to work in the chief civil engineer's office top floor backing onto platform 1. The print room was at the end of the platform and you could get your ears well blasted if one of the pacifics blew off at the safety valve as you walked up to the end.
There was a lane up the north side of the building, also at first floor level- cannot recall its name.
