No real reason for posting snaps of twin pillar boxes from the last year or so, just they still look good around town as everything else gets worse. Amongst others yet to snap the Renfield Streetie, one on Byres Road plus must be some up Maryhill / Springburn way too ? also Southside likely?

I spotted this back in July.

Saracen street at Bardowie Street. I drove by tonight at it seems to have been removed? They did a cracking job to in no time at all.

Volunteer here, just picked up on arthuy's post.

I very much like AMcD's earlier pic “posted” of the EVIIIR Post Box, so rare.

Here is a pic of an unusual model. South of Stobo Castle on the B712 just after the road crosses the Rio Tweed near Bells Pool there is the Dawyck Botanic Garden, worth a visit in its own right. Picture is a Royal Mail Post Box located just south of the entrance to Dawyck Botanic Garden. It is cast metal with the wordage LETTERS ONLY. I defy any one to squeeze anything larger than a Post Office Preferred (POP) size envelope. Remember them? I do. The box is mounted on a Telegraph Pole which looks like it has been snapped off and not cut neatly. My guess is it was a full size pole which sustained damage of some kind. There will be other similar boxes around the country but now you know where to find one. Just for interest these boxes have a Slug Barrier inside to stop the wee devils entering the box and making a home for themselves. First Class I say.

Was wondering if anyone has a list of positions of 'franked mail' pillar boxes round the city streets ?

Know of one at Houston Place & the one at St. Rollox Sorting Office (+ also Underwood Rd Paisley Sorting Office), but there must be others that I haven't noticed.

Volunteer here, read your post MungoDundas. The three boxes you mention are placed there because Royal Mail had premisses there. The Houston Place box I can't picture. I'll give that a drive past. There was a Royal Mail Office on the Paisley Road opposite Houston Place.
From the Royal Mail website:
You can post franked mail in the following places:
Post Office®
Public post box – in a franking outer envelope (supplied by your machine provider)
Business mail post box
Mail centre
Delivery office

My thoughts are it was a great idea but changes in Royal Mail made the system unworkable.
The Pony Express demise was brought about by junk mail and the coming of the rail road
