Not *that* story, Foss. This one involved a plastic, bullet shaped device.
I'll leave the rest to your imagination.
Best, Ronnie

'lifestyle' programmes, and the obligitory Gaelic pish. As for Scotsport

Thimgumyjig - that was atrocious. Wasn't there a 'sequel' show to it??

Of course now that all of ITV is equally bad STV's output blends in, but those of us who are almost as old as this awful broadcaster remember that when the rest of the network was producing stuff like Callan, Brideshead, The World at War and World in Action, STV were churning out daytime magazine shows with Isobel Begg and Glen Michael's Bloody Cavalcade and who can forget Garnock Way which came between High Living and Take the High Road.

To be fair, almost all the ITV regions produced their cheap pish broadcasts, most of which were only broadcast to that regions and not picked up by the ITV network. STV certainly did their share of "regional programming" which is never going to have money thrown at it by those upstairs.

They have done Taggart, McCallum and er...some other bigger budget stuff too I'm sure.

The real tragedy is that their video archive only really goes back to the mid 80's. There is, for example, only one Scotland Today hosted by John Toye still in existance. He presented almost every edition of the show from the early 70s to the mid 80s. Actually, perhaps that's a good thing...

And who could forget Bill Tennent, florid-faced presenter of the teatime news. The best story about him is the time they had Fanny Craddock, the *original* TV cook, on the programme showing the good people of central Scotland how to make doughnuts. They were tasted by the presenters and judged mighty fine. At the end of the show, Bill T. signed off with ... Good night, and may all your doughnuts turn out like Fanny's.

Bill - Good evening chief inspector, your a chief inspector arn't you
CI - That's right Bill, I'm a chief inspector
Bill - What have you got for us this week
CI - A cheeky one this week Bill, 2 neds broke into the Police recreation hall and stole the ping pong table, luckily the officers were playing ping pong at the time and managed to get a description of the men.

I had two of them on vinyl LP. I may have one of them converted to mp3. Let me have a look and I'll see if it's kicking around somewhere....
