"Lemon entry my dear Watson...." from The Hound of the Baskervilles

Perhaps this might be non-food related?
It could be that you just caught the tale end of the burds conversation whilst she was dishing out the vitriol against her pal? eg; 'Aye! and Ah! said your nuthin'but a tattie apple squerr! n'that"

Since we're talking about food and Sherlock Holmes, shouldn't it be ... "Alimentary, my dear Watson".

Actually, I think she meant a "Tati" Apple Square, named after that great French film star, Jaques Tati (Jour de Fete, M. Hulot's Holiday). So it would be a comedy bakery item that dribbled apple down his shirt, then attracted bees so that he fell off his bike, starting a chain of calamities that eventually demolished the village.
Or, of course, the "square" could be a Masonic reference, and don't forget the "Golden Apples of the Sun, Silver Apples of the Moon" connected to the mystery of Rennes-les-Chateau and the Priory of Zion.

Aha, it all becomes clear ... Jaques Tati is the comedy postman in Rennes, where the Priory of Zion is meeting in the town square. He is having his morning coffee and apple square, which the Priory assume marks him out as a member, so they invite him to their top secret meeting. Then the bees arrive, attracted by the apple puree all down the front of his uniform, and the chaos starts ...

Too much coffee ...
