Tiger Thomson emigrated to Australia in 1967 with his family and settled down in Adelaide South Australia.
Where he got out of the automotive industry and had a short and successful career in real estate.
In 1976 he passed away from a fatal stroke whilst on holiday visiting friends and family in Scotland.
My understanding is he successfully represented Scotland on the track many times, does anyone have anymore information about him?

Hi everyone.

Just catching up with this thread for the first time. I was born in Inverleith Street in 1942 just a few hundred yards away from the Myreside Street entrance to the Carntyne dog track. As a kid I used to pester the punters for a penny - ocasionally with success in the case of winners! We moved away to Greenfield in 1950.

In later years - the early 60s - I paid my first visit to the stadium at a point where it was hosting the first ever casino in Scotland. I seem to remember that on one of the very first nights a butcher from Shettleston was winning a fortune until by the early hours of the morning he had lost it all. A valuable lesson!

I think that the photo of the old arch at the Duke Steet end is indeed the last vestige of an access point to the stadium as all else was knocked down.

Of interest, I see the old archway entrance on Duke Street around the corner from Todd Street has been demolished.

There was no way any of that was going to be around come Commonwealth Games time.

they had sort of "open" races where you could sort of turn up and
drive your car round the track. Brian Hoskins(?) ran it I think.
I recall there were a lot of guys from Armadale/Bathgate etc at these
events. What happened to Tiger Thomson? Used to work beside
Beardmores in those far off days. Some of the guys at work
raced greyhounds at Carntyne and the "Mount". Mount Vernon.

Yank tank from that era - I'm sure it could be simply explained by pointing out that he encountered a corner....

Sorry for the Hijack but the thread just reminded me of this. Does anybody remember the speedway being held at Hampden Park in the 70s.

No need for an apology. Norrie would have enjoyed it (as did I ), by the way Bernie Persson (Sweden) was cleaning a spark plug not making rude gestures. 8O ::):

Yer joking? :(

The archway at the entrance to that scary footpath that links up to Carntyne Road, up under the railway bridge? I kept meaning to take photies when I was living in the area, but as always, I kept forgetting.

I suppose I could always do a Google Maps thing, but that would be no fun, obviously, so where are we talking about, here?

Is it down the Parkhead end just before the former Labour exchange?
