Trains to/from lanark and motherwell via bellshill WILL NOT stop at bellshill, run fast to uddingston

Civilian police are in attendance at present

For many years only type 1 and 2 locos were allowed to use the West Highland, owing to weight restrictions on the bridges and cattle-creeps. That meant - when I was growing up in Rhu, right beside the old station - we lived on a diet of 20s, 26s, 27s and 29s, with the odd smattering of 24s/25s and dmus. Then one day a good old EE type 3 appeared in Fort William and a whole new gricing horizon opened up.

Line problem: between Ayr and Stranraer.
Owing to a person hit by a train between Ayr and Stranraer all lines are blocked. Train services through these stations may be subject to disruption on all routes at short notice. An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.
Passengers please note replacement transport will be in operation between Ayr and Stranraer.

Meeting the train time target.

Image

Despite being informed that there were ten passengers on the train from Wick travelling south of Inverness the controller refused to hold the 8:15pm and last train to Glasgow.

The Wick Train was already ten minutes late when it left Thurso due according to an announcement of "Track works and waiting on trains on the single track line. Which was a it ingenious as they were waiting for us. They were building the Dounrae branch line at Georgemas Junction but there was no sign of delay on the occasions when we passed it.

Our train arrived in Inverness six minute late , six minutes after the train had left for Queen Street. The controller had apparently gone home, possibly on that 8.15pm train. He left behind a badly briefed lackey (unaware of his boss's disappearance) who directed us to the passenger carriage of the Caledonian sleeper saying we could change at Perth. He then handed us over to the train manager who could not understand why that advice had been proferred. Anyway she contacted Stirling where we were met at midnight by another lackey who had sorted out a taxi for the six of us bound for Glasgow. When a fellow traveller asked about how serious Scotrail were about hitting Timetable targets he said it was a £20,000 fine or a £200 tax fare. I got home at 01:40 after going via Lenzie, Bishopbriggs and George Square. I felt sorry about the guy going home to Motherwell and then getting up at six am for a drive to Islay where he was staring a new job but that was the way the route worked out.

Still a good day out and the sleeper carriage was comfortable.

At least you got offered a Taxi from Perth.
I've had the same carry on and have been told to comeback in the morning......
and I rose up, and knew that I was tired, and continued my journey

My understanding is if you have a straight through ticket they're obliged to deliver you to your destination and when Thatcher was running down British Rail on the West Coast line the last train would occasionally come in after midnight and taxis would take you home. Those living furthest away got the first cab. There would always be someone from Helensburgh and I'd say I was heading in that direction. A slight diversion would get me in before one.

When I lived in suburbia, I was offered a taxi home several times after a cancellation of the last train.

I'm not in favour of the privatisation of rail services, but in this case I have to say that that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

Or, more accurately, it's closed only till the 25th of November this year - but since trains on the Argyle Line can't leapfrog the flooded bit, it's still going to bugger things up. I hope the revamp work includes a mighty set of sump pumps, cos this is happening more and more regularly.

Dalmarnock proved something of a flooding hotspot today - the road outside Arnold Clark towards Farme Cross was still well flooded hours later, and this was the Clyde cycle path as I rode home at 7.30pm...

Theyre supposed to putting a new pumping station into it...i take the flooding is due to it at the bottom of a climb towards rutherglen and the concrete track bed

Not sure but i remember a story of a train being trapped there and evacuated just before one hell of a flood hit....maybe same time as the flooding at central that trapped the 314
