Forgotten Pubs & Clubs in Glasgow

I have vague memories of going to a Heilin club at the bottom of Byres Rd or across the road once or twice after the pubs shut. Any ideas?

My mother's from the Isle of Eriskay. A lot of the Heilindirs used to meet in the Park Bar.

I also have memories of many a good night.
Myself and a good few others would have floated down from Byres Rd.

Hi Everyone, this is my first post , I have been googling and came across the site, it is fanatstic, I was only meant to have been online for 10 mins and have spent the best part of today scrollling through the threads ! My husband and I were discussing Glasgow Nightclubs from 1980's to 1990's, and we ended up in a huge "discussion" so I am hoping someone here can help !!! I used to work in Stakis Princes's Casino in Sauchiehall Street for a few years from 1988 (the one nearest Speaker's Corner) I am sure the nightclub Joe Paparrazi's was almost next door to the casino going in the direction of Charing Cross (went on to becoome Velvet Rooms, then Blanket etc), hubby however, is adamant that Joe Paparazzi's was actually in the old Locarno /Tiffany's / Zanzibar now Casino premises, I have tried searching on the internet but can't find anything, can someone please put me out of my misery ?

It is currently Club 520.

The Locarno/Tiffany's was a larger ballroom with a capacity of 1800 and it did have a large bar which went under a number of names none of which I recall.

I'd rehearse a Google Street View cruise down Sauchiehall Street. Speakers Corner is now the Driftwood. Start here You should challenge him to a bet before hand.

Hi folks.

As a young whippersnapper in short trousers, my friends and I used to sit on the wall in Thornliebank's main street at Saturday lunchtime and watch the Old Firm fan's come out of the two pubs which were only a few yards apart. One was for the Bears and one was for the Bhoys. They were going on to the buses which had pulled up outside to take them to their respective matches. It was an education for us as we learned some new words to add to our vocabulary. It was all good natured banter as the fans pretty much all new each other. I think the pubs were Finlaysons and the Arden bar. Maybe someone else remembers these times. In fact, as I have moved away from Thornliebank perhaps someone could say if the fans are still coming out the same pubs on a Saturday before the match.

This used to be a great pub with a tremendous atmosphere. Then some years ago it got taken over and renamed Oscar Slater's. It went rapidly downhill after that with a diminishing clientele and even though the old name was eventually brought back the pub never really recovered.
