The figure of 170 seems to be on a few sites and may have come from a report done a few years back by the
Centre for Social Justice.
It is also possible I misheard this and expect your figure may well be correct.

You will have to forgive my ignorance but I had to Google John Carnochan.
Not too well informed about Scottish affairs.

Even in Glasgow, John is a bit 'below the radar' but he's done some extraordinary work.

Jimmy versus The Giant.

Jimmy is trying to sell sausages made from tongue and heart into a major supermarket chain. He's using the Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall 'eat everything but the honk' argument and whilst I can just about see myself eating heart and tongue (I love haggis after all) I doubt I'd be as well disposed towards a product including eg testicles in the ingredients.

Anyone watching Justified.

I originally tuned in because of the Elmore Leonard connection but it stands on its own merits as a top class crime series. http://www.channel5.com/shows/justified

I'm sure I've seen Dicky Bennet on the #9. Image

1) I like Elmore Leonard. I've got an almost shamefully low number of his books, just the two or three, but I'll probably get round to reading my way through the lot when I've exhausted the back-catalogue of these obscure European blokes I'm currently fascinated by.

2) Depends what time of day you get the number 9, and what leg of the journey. That snap is a Monday-Friday 9-4 City Centre-bound, or Fri-Sat 11 PM - 3 AM out of City Centre-bound type. I've seldom had the slightest degree of hassle from them, even the Paisley bloke who (true story) had to keep breaking off the patter to discuss his upcoming attempted murder trial with his lawyer on the mobile.

Crime fiction is very popular in Glasgow and some libraries stock an excellent selection. I've certainly read most of Elmore Leonard, Ian Rankin, James Lee Burke, George Pelecanos amongst others. I need to borrow some more Denise Mina and check out Caro Ramsay.

I was never a crime novel fan, but got vaguely into it via this lot (quote from wikipedia)

The Payback Press was a specialist imprint of Canongate Books devoted to (initially) reprints of classic black crime novels, which later branched out into contemporary black fiction. Notable authors included Chester Himes and Clarence Cooper Jr and Iceberg Slim. As with Rebel Inc., after its successful foundation in the late 1990s, it was discontinued due to a financial crisis in its parent company.

They had a couple of ok-ish novels by Gil "hey, your dad played for Celtic!" Scott -Heron in that later period too.

Anything that doesn't involve the bloody Olympics
