bit of an unusual name "Styx" is that not the river where the ferryman ferries people to the underworld?

wiki says: "The Styx (Greek: Στύξ, also meaning "hate" and "detestation") (adjectival form: Stygian, /ˈstɪdʒiən/) is a river in Greek mythology that formed the boundary between Earth and the Underworld (often called Hades which is also the name of this domain's ruler)"

But a Styx can also be a river or spring nymph and I think that is more likely to be the association in this instance.
