I'd like to put in a wee plug for North Woodside, that's roughly the bit between St. George's Cross and Queen's Cross. I moved back here over seven years ago, to the much-changed area I grew up in, and haven't regretted it.
There are plenty of flats, traditional and modern, for sale or rent at what passes for affordable these days; public transport is good - subway and buses; on foot, it's convenient for the West End and the City Centre; there are lots of wee shops, a Tesco and Lidyl; the pubs tend to be of the "old man variety" but they're fine; there's a good mix of ancient and modern Glasgow in the population; It's a quiet, safe place to go about in; there's a good library and two sports centres; the cafes, Jaconelli's and the Grove are thriving as are the two local restaurants; you get to support the Jags, that's something of a mixed blessing though.
I could go on but in short, I like living here.
PS - I know all my neighbours by name.
