Hello!

What's your original base, then?

I'm a Teessider, from the jolly town of Billingham.

Lived in Glasgow for about 6 months now, but am only just starting to learn the history of this city.

My most 'hidden' moment thus far would have to be my jaunt around Shieldhall sewage works last Thursday. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I was enthralled!

Hi everyone,

Im originally from Yorkshire, have been living in Glasgow for the last three years, originally lived in Partick, then Denistoun, and now i stay in Scotstoun. I love Glasgow and the people, and have felt right at home from the first day i moved here. Im interested in finding more out about this great city.

Im into going to good pubs, clubs, gig venues and restaurants but also have a passion for the history of Glasgow and in particular the architecture, this forum seems like a great place to find out some places of interest and i look forward to seeing what i can find!

Hi all.

The short but boring explanation as to why you find me here is that I did a google search and the forum came up!

The longer and arguably even more boring explanation as to why you find me here? Well....

I was brought up in Chapelhall and upon reaching a certain age in my childhood was fascinated to learn that at one point in time there used to be a railway line and station in the village.

There were a few remnants of this remaining - a large stone bridge support "doon the Maggie" as it was referred to locally in the burn between Chapelhall and Calderbank and banking that the line followed heading up towards Newhouse the most visible structures.

Curiousity piqued over time this has lead to a interests being formed in a variety of fields such as old railway lines, railway stations and public transport in general across Monklands, Lanarkshire and the west of Scotland.

Seeking out info. on these areas it was hard not to develop a thirst for more details about the places on the maps and I began to take to take a growing interest in the development and histories (particularly photographic histories) of buildings, towns and villages in our part of the world.

From just a quick glance through forum has I've already found out great snippets of information and seen some brilliant pictures such as what lies under Glasgow Central Station, photos of the old St Enoch Station and some info. on the "hidden" platform on the lower level at Glasgow Central.

I'm looking forward to delving further and hoping that if a topic does come up that I can offer an opinion on or have some knowledge that I can add to the fine bank of information that's already stored across these pages.

Hello Everyone

Been away for a wee while but looking forward to flat hunting in Glasgow. Hope the landlords don't like poisoning their tenants like they do here :) I see a few familiar names about so it will be nice to catch up with what's been going on.

I might get my archive sorted out and share some photos. Maybe some new ones too if I get the time.

Used to live in Glasgow on and off until I was 12 and the family emigrated to Australia. I have be back a handful of times but there has been a huge gap of about 10 years since the last time I was over. But I will be back this year with my 2 1/2 year old son. So I will be asking tonnes of kiddy questions in the coming weeks.

We lived at my Gran's in Toryglen and I went to Toryglen Primary and Queens Park for a while. With all the traveling I have done as a young one due to the nature of my father's work, not many places feel like home but I have to say Glasgow does and I have enjoyed coming on here and stalking the photo section.

Hi Daydream, the good news is Toryglen PS still survives but since your last visit we've demolished what remained of Queen's Park Secondary and replaced it with the New Victoria.

See here for debate

Is there a 'Jenny' in here? That would be Jenny with a 'J' Not Genny with a 'G' Unless she had long legs.
If there is such a one (lurking) she may well owe me a half pint.

Hiya, i'm dogface and have been prowling around on here for a wee while now - amazing site, love all the history and urban legend...

I'm a fifer (a nice bit, mind you) and have been down in england part time the past few years but want to be back up full time, near my family / friends / somewhere that feels like home! :)

Some of the stories have scared the life out of me mind you ::): some stuff I wish I'd never read! Haha! (Half joking, but that's probably just me being a wee 'feartie' ;) ) Although I did have a giggle about the saracen street 'zombies'...

If I have a question to ask on an old thread that's not directly related to the OP but is related to the conversation, is it better to ressurect that or to start a new specific one, or to PM the specific posters?

Also, if I do actually move to Glasgow, I'd not be able to afford the likes of the west end / partick etc - having been on a wee explore in Ibrox / bits of Govan, it seems a bit mad that more people don't want to live in those beautiful sandstone tenement buildings especially when they're that close to the subway... I love the mix of industrial / victorian architecture, too, really really interesting. Reckon as a female in my 20's (and not a local) I'd be safe enough? I've a wee dog I'd need to walk at night unless I have a garden - could always get a doberman aswell ::):

Anyway, I've had a good search around as it is but it seems like areas in general can change pretty quickly so I might start a thread on 'Cheap and nice' places to live near the city as all my glaswegian mates tell me not to live anywhere they're not living, basically!

Waffled on far too long but really enjoyed reading about people's experiences / the history / myths and legends / culture / pubs!

The BBC is in Govan but another major employer is in financial difficulties so this might be the right time to move.

Resurrect threads rather than start a new one. It's not necessarily better but it's more fun having a glance at what was said and trying to remember what happened to the contributors..
