Two books not mentioned:
Really liked Carol Foreman's 'Lost Glasgow' published 2002 by Birlinn. William M Barr's 'Discovering Glasgow- 22 routes and walks in central Glasgow' 1980 Molendinar is almost worth a past and present.

This small book accompanied an exhibition during the 1990 Year of Culture. One of the most informative books that I have read for a long time; definitely not in either camp ,but it will give you an outline of the changes from privately owned slum housing in the late 19th Century through the mass demolitions ,various types of municipal replacement housing, including the mad dash for high rise housing in the 1960's ( along with the political reasons behind this ), and eventually the renovation of tenements by Housing Associations in the 1970's & 80's.

Hey guys,

found two awesome books in Relics last week:

Leisure in the Parks (1965) a book created in 1965 to coincide with the Commonwealth Arts Festival which lists all the current parks owned by the Glasgow Corporation and their opening dates, features and other information. Some have lengthy and interesting histories. Was nice to see Rouken Glen and Loch Lomond Park as Glasgow parks.

Glasgow at a Glance: An Architectural Handbook (1965) another Arts Festival book. This one has 217 buildings that were currently in the city and their brief description and date of completion plus who designed/built them. A good number don't exist any more.

Really great finds.

Yes, there is a copy in the Mitchell, but it is not too expensive to buy in the 2nd hand bookshops. It's a great read and one you will want to go back to time and again.

I paid around 30 quid for my copy , but it is my favourite Glasgow book. Worth every penny , even if someone can come on here and tell me I could have picked it up for 10 bob

I love reading Jack House books. The Square Mile of Murder for example and the Heart of Glasgow.
