Or 'One boat short of a flotilla', as I believe the technical term is.

I think it's Korean War vintage (the mantelpiece job that is), but the point stands.

Oh, and I very much wonder what the story behind that flag is. Curious.

Yeah, it looks quite Union Flag-ish, but not in that era presumably, unless the Union Flag predated the Union of Parliaments?

The design did, by a clear hundred years, but very odd if the late 17th C is indeed accurate. A big mad pre-Union Whig with a chisel, back in the day? Hmmm.

1690. This may in fact not be the date on which the carving was done. (It was a feeble attempt at irony on my part for which I apologise and I submit myself to the HG Board of Justice and Chastisement.)

Ach, not feeble at all, so there. My interest has been well and truly piqued, though. (Which doesn't hurt at all, even though it sounds like it ought to.)

I place my trust in you, LP, to establish the facts of the matter.

Roses grow on you. (The sculpture of my illustrious forebear dates from WWII. He used to have a trademark cigar but that's long gone; probably swept up along with the dust and debris from the last V2.)

I've only been to Cupar twice, and driving both times , so I couldn't comment Jock :?

I got a nice bit of non-fiction from the bookshop up the wynd with the garden centre and coffee shop though.

..and a wee casual second coming of christ to boot.

It's all happenin' in Cupar...

Worked there a year. Good boozers and a tolerable fife accent. There is some guy called Ken there who everyone seems to know. ;-)
