Ah... is that what it was.

I got off the bus ten minutes ago at Bothwell Street and you could see a huge cloud of rather white looking smoke billowing out of somewere up there.

Fires in nightclubs are always suspicious, it's not that long since they spent loads of cash doing it up. I still huvnae actually been there.

Every single person at my work has walked in and said "Is there a fire somewhere?"

It's pissing me off so much I'm going to put it in a circular and email ti to everybody.

Bugger, hope it's not too bad, or there goes another Glasgow landmark... Always liked the blackened columns and the fact that they never sandblasted it back to the original stone. Ironically, it featured briefly on Restoration once!

As I recall, it was built as the Elgin Place Congregational Church, before finding infamy as Cardinal Follies. I once had a splendid evening in there after finding a ten pound note on an evening when vodka mix was a mere 50p!

Happy days....

I wondered what that smoke was all about. I was walking up North Hannover Street and could hardly breathe!

Infact the smell is all now filtering in through the Air Conditioning in Uni.

Shame really, I was hoping to go there not too long from now.

Ah well!

PS: Thanks Laura for telling me. Because I really was wondering! :) :D

Wee pic swiped off the BBC news website - looks pretty bad, especially if the alarm had been raised at 5am, doesn't get as light as it is in pic till about 8-9am at the moment!

Just back from a wee look round. You can smell the smoke as soon as you get off the underground. No sign of flames now, but its still smoking like buggery!

Looks bad - interior & roof pretty much gone. Exterior walls look reasonably sound; wonder if they'll try to keep them or not?

I'm just back from a wee look about as well, and I'm reekin' of smoke.

I've never seen so many digital cameras up there, I didnae have mine or there would have been yet another. Hell of a lot of polis just standing about as well.

I reckon you are correct nodrog, the interior looks completely gutted, but the external walls seem solid enough.

Tenner says it gets pulled down.

Probably an inside job.

Allegedly. (Just trying to avoid a lawsuit there...)

Agreed - the walls look nice and solid.
So it will be pulled down.

Expensive flat development here we come!

Yep. If there's one thing that area ("theatreland") needs it's more 'luxury' flats.
