Transatlantic Sessions is a wholly artificial construct which is designed solely to bung a selected few a couple of quid and bears no relationship to grass-roots 'sessions'.

1. Nonsense? That's spurious : ) It's a polished programme involving talented musicians - what part of that is nonsense?

2. If it didn't make anyone any money, they wouldn't be doing it on the telly. They're professional musicians.

3. It's not claiming to be grass-roots, last time I looked, although I'm sure the musicians on the programme could hold their own in that sort of situation. The term "session" isn't unique to pubs or living rooms or whatever.

I enjoy the programme when I manage to catch it.

The fact the strapline for one version is 'the best backporch session ever' merely emphasises this.

Bridie, I saw that Joan Osborne episode. I actually bought her album back int' 90s & was surprised at how bluesy it was. She's got a fantastic voice.
