Hideously over-orchestrated nonsense.

Check out the original, or Linda Thomson's take on it (and she, of all people, should know). Listen to Dave Burland's or even Dave Gilmour's version.

Transatlantic Sessions is a wholly artificial construct which is designed solely to bung a selected few a couple of quid and bears no relationship to grass-roots 'sessions'.

1. Nonsense? That's spurious : ) It's a polished programme involving talented musicians - what part of that is nonsense?

2. If it didn't make anyone any money, they wouldn't be doing it on the telly. They're professional musicians.

3. It's not claiming to be grass-roots, last time I looked, although I'm sure the musicians on the programme could hold their own in that sort of situation. The term "session" isn't unique to pubs or living rooms or whatever.

I enjoy the programme when I manage to catch it.

The transatlantic sessions are pure bliss. I wouldn't have discovered utter gems if it wasn't for that show.

I think i'll wait for the DVD.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

That looks like Fossil's kinda show, btw.

The fact they call it (and the 'Highland' version) "sessions" suggests that's exactly the impression the producers are trying and failing to convey - that's it's just a bunch of pals getting together on an informal basis to swap a few tunes and have a few beers - the reality is anything but. The fact the strapline for one version is 'the best backporch session ever' merely emphasises this.

Watching World War II: The Last Heroes.
I cannot express my admiration of those veterans enough.
Footballers heroes? Rubbish
Those guys interviewed in that programme are real heroes.
and I rose up, and knew that I was tired, and continued my journey

It's TV. There's nothing real about TV. It's all made up.

It could be worse. It could be 'community radio'.

Ever heard the Calton Jug band on SGR? Just what you're looking for. Celtic music radio has the occasional jam too.

Do you need to see the musicians if you're interested in the music?

I don't. It's watched by the people who think Jackie Bird flashing a tiny bit of cleavage in the run-up to Tam the Gun's successor heralds all that's best in Scottish music.

Bridie, I saw that Joan Osborne episode. I actually bought her album back int' 90s & was surprised at how bluesy it was. She's got a fantastic voice.
