(Possibly the greatest record shop in Glasgow. Two floors - new on the ground floor, 2nd hand below, along with the space invaders machines and posters memorabilia etc. tended towards a metal/punk crowd, occasional scene of mod revivalist/rocker ruckus in the early/mid 80s.) Shop is now an internet cafe.

Bloggs Records, Union Street

(More or less across the road from Missing, IIRC smaller and stocked with more new wave/post punk obscurities) Shop is now a starbucks.

Renfield St surely, not Union St?

(recent casualty. A very odd shop that stocked tons of easy listening mid price rubbish and the occasional gem priced in a way that suggested they had no idea. Often a good source of newly released non-mainstream or indie stuff at ridiculously low prices. Seemed to have had a copy of "Get yer ya yas out" by the Rolling stones in the window for decades.)

Didnt know that it's gone now. It had largely stopped selling vinyl all
together - I had bought an inordinate amout of LP's and 12"s out of there.
Orginally, it was owned by a middle aged couple and it seemed to pass
onto a younger guy. That's when the amount of vinyl stock held diminished.
Nothing like knowing your customer base eh?

They (the middle aged couple) had a second shop on the southside in
Pollokshaws Road, near Springhill Gardens. I think they retained control
of this one. Anyone know if it's still there?

Listen was the one with two floors, new records on ground floor, second hand & merchandise etc below. I spent far too long down there looking at second hand AC/DC albums. I still have a Syd Barrett 2LP that I bought there.

It's now an internet cafe, previously an Oxfam shop.

It did re-open under a different name for a while, although only on one floor and was IIRC a bit crap.

Bloggs was across the road, in the corner of the old cinema building IIRC and its now a Starbucks.

You'll remember the glass counter downstairs with all the patches and badges in it? I also remember the Galaxians machine on the ground floor.

I remember Bloggs being across the road but wasn't it also round the corner at one time (maybe St Vincent St?)

(Two shops side by side, one selling new the other reduced price stock and second hand. Often had a few decent obscurities and exceptional offers. Apparently run by former staff of Bloggs or Listen, although I could be wrong. Source of many new releases at the best price in Glasgow)

Echo?

I'm sure it became Echo after being Listen

The guy behind the counter in ECHO in Byres Road always reminded me of Terry Nutkins of Animal magic fame for some reason.

Here he is with Seal or was it Adamski?? way back in 1992 ::):

I think it was a bit before Atari,It was more Alice Cooper and David Bowie
The shop is now a dental repair shop and an electrical repair workshop
The other record exchange shop opposite Queens Park was the same owners as Hayes record exchange in Jamaca Street.

Maybe this record shop is not lost, but as a wee boy all those years ago (mid '70s), I used to spend my pocket money on a Saturday in a shop on (south side of) Alexandra parade, near the railway line that ran by Ally Park.

Curious to know if anyone else remembers it? Is it still there? What was/is it called??

Where abouts? There's practically no shops of any description in
Dobbies Loan now.

Well, since we're combining records and comics - remember when Virgin on Union Street had a comic shop in the basement? It must have been around the late 80's when The Dark Knight and The Watchmen were being hailed as masterpieces.

West End Records in Partick next to where Robert Whites used to be. Not far from the F n F Bingo.
It's gone now as most of the shops there are closing down for re-development apparently.
