The Great Eastern

http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/GreatEastern/

Mostly based on panoramas we took to promote a photography exhibition in 2001.

There are a few photographs from the rest of the hotel, including the upper floors which we got a guided tour of by the wee guy who manned the door. The upper floors were both burnt out and riddled with dry rot, so NOT ideal for a wander around!

well, (as mentioned), there was a photography exhibition in 2001. I believe its been used by various folks over the years.

The panoramas were all shot to use on a website promoting the exhibition.

I skipped the opening, it just seemed so..... patronising. Well, some of the guys that had been photographed were to be there and it just had that freak show feel to it!

...the photographic works themselves were pretty good though.

Hi guys, do any of you know what they are going to do with The Great Eastern Hotel.
It has been lying empty for some time, is this going to be another treasure that will be demolished because of neglect/arson?, ok I am a cynic.
Good shots of the insides, they say that the camera never lies, hmm, I would say that they flatter the building.
It makes me glad that life has been better to me than some folk.

I suppose it's good they're making them flats, although I can't say I'm surprised... Seems everything is being made into "luxury flats" these days.

Still - better than being pulled down! :?

I wish I got a chance to see it as it is today. Great photies! :)
Ehhh... cool. Whatever you say, I'm sorry. You're the man. The dude in the chair.

Well this looks fairly standard.

Perhaps the interior conversion will be more interesting?

Is that the front or the back of the building?

Its really got to be the back, the front is right on the pavement!!

The stairwells look ugly, but then its only a teeny tiny picture, perhaps it wll look better than I fear?

The proposal entails the redevelopment of the B-listed Great Eastern Hotel building and the the erection of 2 new build blocks for 36 flats and a nursery for Milnbank Housing Association as per the Merchant City Developent map >here<.
