A bit of photo editing advice needed..

Postby Schiehallion » Mon Sep 27, 2004 11:42 am

Having just bought my first digital camera, can anyone advise what's the best options for digital photo editing/enhancing/mucking about? I see Photoshop being mentioned, is that the full blown one? Is Photoshop Elements just a cheaper more basic package?

What's the best low price stuff. I already have photoimpression 4, how does that rate against what's out there?

Thanks for any help.

photshop elements

I'd go for Photoshop Elements 2.0
It's by far cheaper than the full blown CS version but you'd be likely to use most of the stuff.

You'll find all you need and more with Elements.

Why pay when there's perfectly good free alternatives? The GIMP is one of the best photo editing packages I've used, free or otherwise.

From what I've heard, downloading the Gimp is a pain what with having to download all sorts of files.

Download PS Elements you say ?

I mean, I'm not gonna tell you to go to http://www.winmx.com and download the satellite program. Nor instruct you on how to set the search type to 'programs' and type in 'PhotoShop' as the search text.

There is no way on this earth I'm gonna express the view that you should just go and download the software and use it directly.

No sirryyyy bob. Nope.

I'll put my hand up first and say I might just be impatient, but I spent a few hours with The Gimp too, and eventually hit the big 'Folder Delete' button, after getting no intuitive production, although I was disappointed after the build up and samples I had seen before I elected to download it.

Still suffering withdrawal as I couldn't sneak PS out from my last job, but I have been using winmx for a couple of years, and it does work intuitively (ahem, hint).

Oh no, that would be an outrageous thing to do...

(particularly when there is this place)

Suprnova is well the best for downloads. Unless the dl turns out to be p!ssy. But it's still the best.

You guys need to read the WinMX tutorial.

If you are actually telling me that SuperNova is better than WinMX connected upto 3600 OpenNap protocol servers worldwide... Then there is something far wrong!! :?

Consult your WinMX manuals!!

Supernova would be all right if 1. It had more Mac stuff and 2. I could be bothered installing the bittorrent thing.

WinMX seems ok as long as you are prepared to wait, and that your target stays available, or connects, and you're prepared to wait....

I just tried Supernova out of curiosity, done the bittorrent thing and tried a few downloads.

First was just anything small 1-2 M just to see if it worked, which it did.

Second was a bit bigger, and while it downloaded, it refused to open.

Third and final attempt, and the rar was no longer even being recognised when I selected a file for download. So after restarting and no improvement, Supernova's gone.
