Much as I like Festival Park (I prefer the 'after' in your first pair there to the 'before'), the state of the pond in the second pair is a disgrace.

Those are brilliant! It crossed my mind a while back to ask if anyone had a pic of the cascade when it was all pristine and new but I didn't get round to it, mostly because I thought it was such a long shot. Should have had more faith in HG's collective powers.

I've had a moan at the local councillors (I'm worried if the water gets all stinky someone'll decide it's an elfen safety emergency and have the lot filled in over a weekend). The only one who bothered to reply said that she (oo what a giveaway) had asked before and the answer was that the pump had broken down and they were trying to source a replacement. Or possibly a replacement part. That was something like a year ago.

Maybe more letters from more concerned citizens would help a bit.....

Spent most of 1988 building then taking apart features at the Garden Festival

Got issued with a pass and visited it regularly,

I was along with the head of safety at the closing ceremony and considering the amount of visitors it had he was saying that there was few accidents. He had just said that when there was a bigger bang than usual, turned out to be one of the guys involved in the display being injured

The Clydesdale Tower was taken to Rhyll and re-erected, as far as I know it is still there

Don't know were the "sculpture" that was on the big davit at Govan Town Hall ended up

Bells Bridge was built by John Youngs (Kelvinhaugh) .. Bubbly's at their Scotstoun yard and carried down the river by the floating crane Mersey Mammoth.

The British Steel bridge that carried the railway line across the entrance to Pacific Quay had buoyancy tanks that allowed it to be moved by tugs at high tide to allow boats to enter leave the basin. Again built by Youngs at Scotstoun and floated down river

Coca Cola Fun Ride went down to England as mentioned earlier in this thread.

An old document i've just found while doing a clear out.

This is the paperwork info that was sent to me when i applied for a market stall at the 1988 GGF.

Never got the stall, i dont think any of the local people got any of the stalls, not because of the rental prices but the then SDA wanted brand named companies to take on these stalls which i felt was very unfair to the people of local Govan and surrounding areas.

I only managed to visit it twice, and both times the coca-cola coaster was under maintenance, much to my relief.
My friends would've dragged me onto it and I bloody hate things that spin you roon and shake the crap out of you!

I'm sure if I have a poke around the loft, there's some super-8 my dad took while we were there.

Still there, and I am ashamed to say that I was never on it in Glasgow but have been on it in Rhyl!

It is indeed. The Milk Bar was one of my favourite buildings at the Festival -- I wonder what happened to it. Anyone know?
