alright guys! how you,s doin?

im quite new here. lived in glesga for 2 years, looking for some places i can take my metal detector farmland or woods. i dont have a car so it would need to be somewhere close to a popular bus route.

cheers.

Hi Dave,

i don't know much about metal detecting but you could try the woods and scrubland around Cathkin Braes (seems to be getting mentioned a lot around here lately).

There has been Iron Age and Roman settlements recorded in the area and it offers a great view of Glasgow. If you get a bus out to Castlemilk then the braes are just behind there, watch out for the local wildlife though. Alternatively there may even be a bus that goes along the old (Busby?) road from Carmunock to Hamilton.

Another area to try might be Antonines Wall at Croy (Train from queen st).

Cheers, Jason

Yes, it's out Tollcross way, the name means "field of rye" :)

Used to have a little country park which was just a wooded area with a path running round the edge. 64 bus used to terminate there and the terminus is still there but seldom used, if ever

And the red Dalmuir West to Auchenshuggle (later No 9) tram service, which made it famous :)

Probably replaced by the number 64 bus which went from Mountblow to Auchenshugle, later extended to Carmyle.. if I'm not mistaking? Couldnt tell you if that service still ran since I don't live in Tollcross anymore and havent for 12 years

It was the replacement. Don't know myself if it's still running.

I used to fancy doing a bit of metal detecting. The path of the Antonine Wall ran near the top of my old road. Never did get the gear :-(

You don't even have to get aff the bus. Turn yir machine on and it'll detect the needles the junkies have in their pockets, the cans hidden by the alkies, all the concealed blades carried by the hoodies, teeth braces worn by the non hoodies, the zippos carried by the smokers, the belly button rings, eyebrow-nose-ear and lip junk worn by the metal merchants, yir grannies mobile phone and on yir way aff the bus the brass rings put in the payment box....now thats what l call a good days hunting and all for £2.60
