Looks like the waterbus did not do very well on its first trial. I hope it gets sorted out.
It could be the start of something good, maybe even expanding, doing a circuit say from Yoker over to Renfrew , Braehead, Govan, the Quay, back over the water, along the other side and back to Yoker :D. Or is that just daft!

Thats a great idea, it might even make money doing that, but its to sensible an idea for them to do it.

I was going to make the very stupid point of saying there's no slipway near the Quay/Finnieston for it to enter/exit the Clyde, then it dawned on me that there are a few of those road bridge thingys in that area

What can I say, it's half one in the morning and I'm tired ::):

Not a bad suggestion for a route minxy, though why not extend it through the Gorbals, along Ballater St/Kings Dr, round the Green and back along the north side of the river to join your suggested route at Finnieston?

Good idea as the circular tour would be, it'd probably keep the waterbus away from the ferry crossing for too long to provide a frequent service across the river.

True, time will tell. If it is a success, maybe another can be put into action.

The very first time I heard of the amfibus I thought it was a hoax, I saw it yesterday it's quite real. Would some type of bridge not be a better option.

A large swing / rotating bridge has already been ruled out cost grounds, the river needs to remain navigable to allow large vessels to pass to & from Yarrow's, Govan and KGV docks. A bridge was considered in the 1980's but was ruled out for the above reasons.

How frequent would the Yoker-Renfrew crossing have to be to make the service compensate sufficiently for the loss of the ferry?

I'd guess Minxy's suggested route (taking the river crossing, stops, traffic congestion, etc into account) would take around 1 hour 20 minutes; I reckon my extended suggestion (see below) could be done inside 2 hours. I don't know if there would be any restrictions on using the Amfibus on the river in non-daylight hours, however lets assume the extended route would allow 8 crossings (in a single direction) per day. Would that be regular enough to make it a satisfactory replacement for the ferry service?

Regardless of any route that may be chosen, however, I doubt the service will work unless there are two Amfibuses (so one can do a clockwise circuit and the other an anti-clockwise circuit). After all, if there was only a service in one direction and you were on the 'destination' side of the river crossing, would you be happy at having to travel a (near-enough) full circuit just to get to the opposite bank of the river??
