HH, don't know anything specific but I found this post although related to a farm by the canal at Temple, it also mentions 2 piggery's in the area http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/lofiversion/index.php/t1941.html

The farm near Islay Ave was a isolation farm for infected cattle. It was over a little wooden bridge and was on the bank of the canal. The farm was owned by the Gows. The only other animal farms, were piggeries, one at the top of Strathcona Dr, and one just past the big canal bridge on Beardsden Rd on the steep hil, and facing Dawsholm Park.

"that's where the said piggey is" - as in present tense?

Hazy, are you saying there is still a piggery at that location??

I can't contribute anything definite about a piggery either but, by sheer coincidence, I have an old OS plan (1864 version I think) of this area lying rolled up on my office desk and it shows the farm referred to by YB - it's named on the plan as Netherton Farm I think.

I'll scan it tomorrow and upload it when I get in from work.

Netherton Farm? Isn't that the new housing on the canal opposite the huge gym/fitness/leisure thing? I think it's an eyesore now, so...piggery, sty, stye...

There is an old photo of the lock here:

Go to 'My City' then 'Glasgow in the 1980's' The pic at at the bottom of the page.

Surprisingly, Hazy may have been right after all! ::):

From the person who first posed the question to me & in answer to the above photo:
Yes, that was the Lock-keeper's cottage mentioned above. The piggery was a wee red brick building just beside it.

So, if Hazy is right in saying "Head for the gas towers thats where the said piggey is" Then the building to the left of the cottage (Lock 27) must be the Piggery, no? I'm awaiting confirmation from the original poser of the question.

HH if you are at Lock 27 start walking along the canal. You wil go over the Queen street low line rail , further along you pas two lock gates.
You will then pass a wee moorings for boats. As you walk round a slight bend you will see the said building on your right. Just past the bilding is the Queen Street high level line to Anniesland .
Thank you. And why not.
