H2O released Hollywood Dream on Spock records before signing for RCA. They reached #17 with Dream to sleep had another entry into the top 50 and followed that with an album. They actually sold out The Mayfair but just could not compete with Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet.

The Dolphins had a dedicated and accepting fan following, got signed to a publishing deal, attracted record company interest but ended up as just one of a series of Glaswegian bands who had big followings but never made it outside the city. They did inspire a former HGr to put together a web site.

Totally agree with the comment about Glasgow (at least, as far as I can remember!). I live in Ledbury (Herefordshire) these days and there's band down this way doing the rounds called Society Crisis that are the same sort of cheesy naffnes (in my opinion of course :-)

"I Dream To Sleep" was a pretty decent song; I've got the 12" single of it. The B side wasn't bad either as far as I can remember (although I haven't listened to it for a while). Saxaphone was quite popular in those days :-)

The irony of it is that all the bands that are specifically mentioned in the article as supporting the cause, and the others who probably would support the cause if they were fully aware of it, could probably quite easily get together to stump up the cash! It would be nice if, let's say, all those major bands that once played at the bandstand, or just support the idea of it anyway, donated their income from one gig in the city to the cause. I guess it's still all down to the city council though who, as is mentioned, are responsible for it all.

Does anyone know if the business plan mentioned is available online? I'd be interested in seeing what ideas they had for making it self-funding for example.
