What qualifies something as a GCC park? I'm assuming it has to have a city council sign at it declaring it as such, rather than it just being an area of green space???

Thought I'd list the ones I could come up with...

North [33]
Alexandra Park; Auchinlea Park
Barrachnie Park; Botanic Gardens; Broomfield Park
Cowlairs Park; Cranhill Park; Crosshill Park
Dawsholm Park
Earlybraes Park; Eastfield Park
Garrowhill Park; Glasgow Green; Glenconner Park; Greenfield Park
Helenslea Park; Hogarth Park; Hogganfield Park
James Lindsay Memorial Park
Kelvingrove Park; Knightswood Park
Maryhill Park; Milton Park; Mount Vernon Park
Orchard Park
Petershill Park
Robroyston Park; Ruchill Park
Sandyhills Park; Sighthill Park; Springburn Park
Tollcross Park
Victoria Park

Blairtummock Park; Budhill Park; Croftcroighn Park; Huntingtower Park [4 possibles]

South [15]
Albert Park
Bellahouston Park
Cathkin Braes
Elder Park
Festival Park
King George V Park; Kings Park
Linn Park
Maxwell Park
Newland Park
Pollok Park
Queens Park
Richmond Park; Rosshall Park
Toryglen Park

That's 48 by my reckoning - maybe 52?

My knowledge of the north of the city is much better than the south as you can see.

There are other 'parks' that I can think of but I'm not sure of their names or even if they are official parks.

Josef,

Where is Garnethill Park (yeah, in Garnethill, but where exactly)?

Here, Steve.

Which perhaps highlights the difficulty of defining a park, as you say. Even GCC weren't very sure :

At the invitation of Glasgow City Council, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales, visited the Garnethill Park on Friday 13 December, 1991. When the park was first proposed it was described in official literature not as "the Garnethill Park", but as "the People's Square", an apt prelude to validation by "the People's Princess".

But anyway, I think it does have an offical sign at the St Aloysius corner, so it's in.

Something to be proud of. :)

Europe's Best Park 2008

Image

Following on from the Britain's Best Park award in 2007, Pollok Country Park was crowned Europe's Best Park 2008.
Pollok Country Park beat off strong competition from parks in Italy, France, Germany, Poland and Sweden to lift this prestigious award.
Winning in Europe is a magnificent achievement for the City's largest park. Pollok's 361 acres of countryside and woodlands, rich natural history and steeped in over 800 years of history, right in the heart of the City offers visitors a unique experience which the judges recognised
