The Bogie Man

Postby Seamey » Sat Aug 21, 2004 1:05 pm

No-one seems to have mentioned the bogie man in here, so I thought I would.

Set of 4 comics set in Glasgow drawn and written by the artists behind 2000AD - it was televised and starred Robbie Coltrane in 1992 see http://www.ninthart.com/display.php?article=237

I'll scan in some of the images.

It was also redrawn - by Cam Kennedy - and published over four issues of Apocalypse magazine in 1991. A wonderful tale, absolutely ruined in the television version, IMHO.

I could remember reading parts of it years ago and so went out a bought a copy the other day.

Fantastic stuff. Excellent idea, funny dialogue and with well excuted drawings of 1990's Glasgow. I was getting strange looks when I laughed aloud reading it on the bus this morning.

Cheers for the reminder. :)

AH - now here's a strand after my own 'geek' comic loving heart...one thing I've always loved about Alan Grant is that he always manages to squeeze some Scottishness into his work.
He used to do Strontium Dog for 2000AD and there was a character called 'Mad Middenface MacNulty' who used to come out with such gems as 'This spaceports busier than Sauchiehall street on a Saturday afternoon'.
The Bogie Man was a real labour of love - there's some great images of that time in Glasgow.
The Jungle? Yeah, I do kinda miss it...but it's nice to get off the food chain, y'know?

I've still got these lying around at home somewhere. love the scene in the bar with the guy playing "chirpy chirpy cheep cheep".

just remembered the whole thing started off with him breaking out of an asylum - anyone remember which one it was? Probably given a fictional name, but based on a real one. Gonnae scan in the pictures and we'll probably be able to name it!
