If you go along to the Mitchell Library and ask to see the Evening Times or another newspaper for 4 May 1949, you will find out everything you want to know. There would also have been a Fatal Accident Inquiry, reported in the papers a few months later; all the court papers from the FAI can still be seen in the National Archives of Scotland.
I have a copy of the Daily Record's outer pages, Thursday 5th May 1949, reporting the story and giving a list of those who were killed. Strangely enough I posted this a month or two back, having just found a suitcase full of old papers. See last post on this page...
