Baby and Prams shops in Glasgow, 1960s and 1970s

I am currently doing some research into baby and prams shops here in Glasgow in the 1960s and 1970s.

Places like Mrs Diack’s in Arglye Arcade, Babyland on Victoria Road or Babyfair on Great Western Road.

I would like to find out more about how the shops were laid out, what they sold, and who worked in them.

I would be especially interested in speaking to former employees of these or similar shops or people who bought their prams, toys and baby clothes at these types of shops.

I am happy to discuss my research with anyone interested or who might have information for my project.

Could I suggest you may be better off posting on Glasgow Guide. There are a number of pram pushers and pram faces on there who should be able to recall pram shops. They do nothing else but recall.

I of course had a Silver Cross. My fellows on HG were pushed around in front facing buggies which explains many of their failings.

you could try the Glasgow pram centre along at the Barras I am sure Mr & Mrs stark have had pram shops since the 70s (its a family run shop) i also remember the nursery dept in the basement of John Menzies store in Argyle st (now tescos)
I worked in John Menzies as a porter and went along to the Glasgow pram centre as they repaired buggies now and again.
And there used to be a pram show in January with the latest models being displayed i think it was held in the McLellan Galleries in Sauchiehall street
