No takers? I think it was the Little John?

It's actually in Glassford St, the continuation of Stockwell St. I was in it recently (one more before the last bus syndrome), it's like going into a time warp.

Has anyone ever mentioned The devon bar at the corner of eglinton st and devon street, the first pub i had a pint in at the age of 15. Publicans were Jack and Bill I believe one of them was an ex police sergerant. On weekends they had a "cabaret" a wee guy called sonny was the MC he always joined in with a song by going choo choo choo choo onto his mike. It was like lost vegas.
Aye,well.

Hi guys,

I was a regular in the Howff at the weekends to see the bands, it had to be one of the best pubs in Glasgow. We used to sneak in through the fire exit upstairs to avoid being asked too many questions by the bouncers.

The Costiera, Griffin, Oceans, Iron Horse were all others that me and my pals frequented.

Under agers are always easily impressed that they even get served. Watterson took the piss out of his customers and served it up as lager, warm lager at that.

Jings isnt sarcasm alive and well in Glasgow...

I certainly wasn't an underager DSC, not in the Howff days anyway, I used to go up the Tech when I was.

We only went to the Howff for the bands, and we seen some crackers there.

Yes I saw some good bands there but it was still dump of a pub. In later years I saw plenty of other bands in decent pubs some of whom managed to serve decent beer at a reasonable price and surprise surprise the Howff closed.

You went to the Howff not for the exotic surroundings or wonderful clientelle, but just to see bands. And the reason we used to sneak in the back door, was we were usually quite drunk by the time we got to the Howff. :)

There was never a happy medium in Glasgow where you had good surroundings, reasonably priced drink and good music, in most pubs, it was a case of one out of three aint bad, and that was usually the music.
