Also anyone remember downstairs at The Blenhem I think it was called or The Maggie across the road on Sauchiehall street in the 70's.

The Three Pigeons was just by Charing Cross, at the corner of Sauchiehall St./Granville St. It became an Indian Restaurant. It was one of those places with a function suite, like the nearby Gresham and Bon Accord.

The Three Pigeons is in the process of becoming another Balbir's restaurant.

Carrs Keg in my day and an excellent place to stand a good chance of an underage pint.

Renamed The Pablo towards the end of the 1960's. It was a bit of a knocking shop quite frankly. A group of prostitutes used to frequent the downstairs lounge until they were eventually given their marching orders and shifted a short distance along Sauchiehall St. to the upstairs lounge at the Beresford Bar [which I think may have been called the Oceans Eleven around this time]. However I do have a feeling that later on the downstairs lounge was used as a live music venue - this may well have been when it was known as the Speakers Corner.

The prostitute women who frequented the place were the ones who worked the Ashley Street/ Arlington Street area and who hung around the Charing Cross snack van into the wee sma' hoors.

The Drum in Shettleston has just closed and, according to my Dad, the Portland looks to be next. The Drum is no great loss as a pub but the Portland is a B-listed art deco building; I'd hate to see that go. My family has been propping up the bar there for decades.
Incidentally, I was in Uddingston on Saturday and was taken to the Rowantree. What a terrific pub: it was an old coach- inn, dating back to the early 1800s and retains most of its features including the ticket-booth. Good pint, good service and reasonable prices.

Ultrateque was on the top floor of the old Appollo...with it's unique springy dancefloor. It was also the first time I saw guys dance with each other...and near the end of the night.. it became the norm for a lot of folk to walk around the outside of the dancefloor....I'm sure something passed me by there.......

Thom405l, The dancing above the Apollo was called the Penthouse. The Ultratech was at the side of the savoy centre between Bath street and Sauchiehall street, i think the actuall address was Wellington street but not 100% sure.

It was the basement of the Ramana Indian restaurant for us, with the legendary barman Gunwar.

Customer: What kind of fish is in this pakora?
Gunwar: Fish. Fish. Fish that swim in the sea.

sounds like my first visit to an overseas Chinese restaurant

Me - "what's that?"
Chinese guy - "meat soup"
Me - "meat soup!? er...what sort of meat???"
Chinese guy - "Yes, it's meat"
Me - "but what sort of meat?"
Chinese guy - "from an animal"
Me - "what sort of animal?"
Chinese guy - "it is meat soup!"
Me - "yes, but what sort of meat?"
Chinese guy - "from an animal"
Me - "which animal?"
Chinese guy - "meat animal"
Me - "is it chicken?"
Chinese guy - "It is meat!"
Me - "is it pork?"
Chinese guy - "It is meat!"
Me - "Yeah ok, i'll take it"
