Data bank of the old Museum of Transport

Postby mrsam » Thu Jul 10, 2008 10:01 pm

Searching (novel I know) I found lots of info/debate on the new Museum of Transport

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1426&hilit=+transport+museum

and the ramifications for the Kelvin Hall

BUT

There is no/limited record of the curent museum!

Hence this thread,

Can people post pictures, memories of the curent museum to create a record for the future, a sort of past bit of a 'past present'

Mr Sam
Hmmm I wonder what happens if i press that lever.... Ahh It operates that shiny new plug socket!

this was a bugger to photograph as it's been attached to my window for nigh on 17 years, and is a car sticker so it goes the wrong way!!

Mr Sam

P.S. was there a 'Sam goes to the Transport Museum' pamphlet from the 'Sam Goes' series of the 80's?

You have to remember that the Kelvin Hall was not the first Museum of Transport, that was in the old Tram Depot at Pollockshields. They had a fantastic model railway layout of Carlisle Citadel there, I have always wondered what happened to it.

The Albert Drive site was great :)

During the refurb of Kelvingrove a guy I know was having a nosey through the skips, he found they had dumped a number of model trains and ships. I hope that wasn't it :|

Was that the bit where you went up a few steps into a kinda rectangular smallish room and the layout was on your right as you walked in?

I can still mind the wee cafe in the original Museum Of Transport where they sold pop-up ice creams. You pushed the wee plastic stick at the bottom to push the platform up the tube.

I believe the railway layout went to make room for the Subway mock up.
The old museum had a great atmosphere, but the Kelvin Hall could have been so much more (don't worry I won't rehash the old argument again ::): ).

if you have a photobucket account
In Photobucket 1)log in
2) on the main page is a box(bout middle of screen next to a really anoying add) - click on the upload link and a sccreen appears that asks you to find and upload pics find the pics u want and highlight to upload to photobucket.

To put pics on HG 1) in photobucket highlight the box marked img code next to a picture in photobucket(only the account user can do this when signed in)
2)copy the text and
3) paste in a message in HG type in box thing, if correct on pressing the preview box the post should include a picture.

Hope this helps
