Help on Glasgow Maritime/Industrial Photographers - WWI

Postby AndyF » Wed Jun 18, 2008 8:28 am

Hi,

I hope you can help me - I am looking for photographs of the Glenartney from WW1, built by C.Connell & Co, Glasgow in 1911, owned by Caledonia S.S Co Ltd., sunk 18/3/1915 near the Sovereign Lighthouse.

I have contacted Lloyds / National Maritime Museum and Glasgow archives but to no avail.

If anyone knows of any local photography companies / family businesses that are still going strong, private collections- please let me know!.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Andy

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but here goes anyway.

In about 2001-2 I helped a chap called, I think, Alan something who had been in management at John Brown to compile a CD of photographs he'd rescued from the basement of Clydebank Town Hall. It wasn't terribly well done but there were loads of pics. I've misplaced all documentation from that time and can't recall much more about it than that. I've a notion Alan lived in Bearsden.

Thanks Onny - bit of a teaser though !. Anyone know this chap ? anyone have the CD ?!. If you're out there Alan, please drop me a line - I know from Glasgow University that the company plans and photos were lost to fire. Cheers, Andy
