A promotional single recorded by oor verra ain Glasgow beat combo The Poets extolling the virtues of strike cola, released 1969-ish. Curiously this was towards the end of their career...

growing up in Milton of Campsie it was Garvies and Alpine vans that did the round, one of my neighbours was a delivery driver for Garvies, used to park a big flat bed truck overnight at his house. If you were up early enough you could get a lift down Campsie Road to where the school bus picked you up.

Round that way if you were seen carry bag fulls of empties to the shops you had to suffer the cruel taunts of " ya bottle merchant"

Nothing better than raiding the road workies sites at the weekend looking for bottles to return.

We used to have the "Alpine" man and a guy selling Bon Accord ginger round our way. Alpine ginger was always tasted diluted but I remember Bon Accord Pineappleade was really tasty. Full of E numbers probably.

I remember many shops on the south side sold Struthers, they were based at Lochwinnoch, and like Garvies (who were in Milngavie) outside pretenters to the crown of Barrs and Barries.....

Barr’s pop back to the future with new brew

GLASGOW-BASED drinks firm AG Barr is to put the fizz back into nostalgic brews.
The Irn-Bru maker is launching a range of traditional sparkling soft drinks.
Four flavours: dandelion and burdock; traditional lemonade; ginger beer and cream soda with a hint of raspberry are being introduced.
Bosses hope it will help them win the battle against Coca-Cola's new Schweppes Classic brand.
Adrian Troy, head of marketing for Barr Soft Drinks said the new range would be in shops within weeks.
He added: "They have an authentic taste unlike any other soft drink."
The firm's commercial director Jonathan Kemp insisted the authentic flavour would differentiate their products from the company's rivals.
The value of the adult drinks market has grown to more than £100million but sales are said to have slowed in

Curries used to be made in Auchenleck but there is a Tesco there now.

Was actually talking about this at work today and was suprised to hear that Curries was still on the go - hope to get a fix of Red Kola that has been sadly absent in my life for too long!!!

The mug stain is the badge of red kola authenticity.
