As I now deliver the post to the tenements which look on to the old parish church in Cathcart;

I could see that the doors to the old clock tower had been broken open;

So obviously it was my duty as an HG'er to go exploring. ::):
I remember as a kid the staircase could still be seen running up the inside but to be honest, its now pretty boring inside;

Im affraid not. In January we were in Cathcart Cemetary. This isnt too far away from the pub we had lunch in.

i grew up in and around this cemy
there is some amazing history about the place
i will bang some heids the gitther and try to get
some history and folklore :idea:

Has anyone ever been into Govan old parish church, its a victorian church with a good collection of celtic (no not the footy club people) symbol stones. Most are simple stones with an interwovan cross one one side.

some like the one above were reused in the 18th century

there are 3 Viking Hogback stones

and best of all both the stalk of a large cross, and a sarcophagus

all of the stones were found in the 1800's and the minister had them put in the church for safe keeping.

An amazing survival considering the location of the church
