hidden glasgow?

Postby scaramangi dialectic » Sun Feb 22, 2004 1:50 am

i am sorry folks but i see nothing hidden in this hidden glasgow apart from old buildings and old cliches. what's the reason for the web site? what has it revealed apart from a bunch of well worn cliches and safety zones of expectation via people who have either left or have the luxury of possibly leaving? where's aw the heart and apathy? where's aw the thought? its sentimental bollocks as far as i can see. so, to not stand accused of being the cynical critic i propose a few alternatives...

photos of council housing with double glazing and new doors
a network mosiac of suicide zones throughout the city
a short documentary of casualty, ER glaswegia style
a list of reasons why people left the country and why those who have stayed talkabout the place as a place
a slow mo camera like the ones they use to show flowers erupt and die focused on food buying trends in local supermarkets
pictures of semi naked students and social workers

Hi Scara
Good points. I'm really looking forward to seeing your photographs and postings on the seven points you have made. Bring them on ...

Well scaramankie, I don't know if you've noticed but these forums are for discussion. No matter how trivial, everyone that visits this site is invited to take part and share their thoughts, their memories, their questions.

Have u never walked down a street yourself and wondered "what's that... what's that doing there... how did it get there... etc, etc???". Has there never been a time in your life when you would have liked someone elses opinion?

Maybe we are a bit sentimental ...wheres the crime in that?

I like Glasgow, theres history and character here, and yes I do have the luxury of leaving, but who doesn't? If you feel you have something to say that will break through our "safety zones of expectation" then by all means enlighten us.

Theres plenty of us who've put "heart" into this site... maybe you can deliver the "apathy"?

Im sure we all look forward to your first post ...maybe you could help us break free from these chains of domestic urban exploration (the cliches could go on)! Deliver the goods mate and we'll take u seriously!!!

Sounds like scaramanga d forgot how to enjoy him/her self?
There are a number of diverse things (and thinking) going on in this site. Peoples ideas and interests will influence each other. Some of us will discover new ways to look at the city through these forums. Seems to me that our engagement with place has been intensified. No bad thing. I've not noticed any censorship going on here. Anyone can voice an opinion , or fly the flag for their particular viewpoint.
Still, its easy to be cynical. Maybe scaramanga should come along on the next wee outing? Could learn a thing or two maybe? Or would that be too much like having fun?
Check out 'Molendinar Burn' in the projects for the next round of madness. All welcome.
